Live In The Present

A very unusual thing happened to me the other night. As I went to check my phone, I realized it lost battery. Then as my instincts told me, I went for the next piece of technology, my computer. Soon realizing my computer also had no battery.

Usually, I’d be the one to run to charge those suckers up because in reality, how could I go without any device for longer than a few minutes? Then something weird came over me and I had this “everything happens for a reason,” type of moment. I took my devices being uncharged or perhaps dead, as a sign to disconnect.

The greater universe was telling me to step away from my devices and just live in the present moment. So what did I do? I just embraced being. I journaled, completed crossword puzzles, and sat peacefully in my room while letting go of all the drama, social media, and instant gratification we millennials crave.

At first, I didn’t know how I’d feel once I let go.

Now, I can say with certainty that I will continue to disconnect if not once but multiple times a day because that my friends is what it is to be.

Life is a beautiful thing and we are cutting ourselves short by living behind our screens.
